2112 - El Maravilloso Circo De Los Hermanos Lombardi 2012

In 1984 guitarist Juan Tambussi, together with drummer Sergio Moscatelli, both fans of RUSH, decided to form a complex heavy metal band called FAHRENHEIT. Soon after, the band broke up, and that's when the two got in contact with Lucho Paseri, who came from a symphonic band similar to YES. They decided to have a common project, mixing RUSH, YES and heavy rock in a power trio format: it was 1986 when this project got officially formed and baptized as 2112. After years spent in gigging continuously, they managed to make their debut album in 1990, with original composition and songs in Spanish - it was "Alterando las Divisiones", produced by Sergio's brother.Throughout the following years, the trio focused on playing live in gigs and festivals (mostly, heavy metal festivals), while recording demos for an intended second album. Due to some problems with the record company as well, as some inner conflicts, such material was not released. But in 1994, as an independent band, and with the added presence of Adrian Katz on keyboards, 2112 recorded their second record, again with Spanish-language material, called "Intro". This album turned out to be quite successful outside the country, since it was distributed by an European company (which even proposed them to re-record it in an English version), and via catalog in the USA. A new crisis reduced them to a "power trio" again when keyboardist Katz left the group. However, stronger than ever, they started playing live again, even supporting American neo band ILUVATAR in an Argentinean gig in September 1997. In 1999, Lucho Paseri left the group, being replaced by Daniel Bazán, an old bandmate of Tambussi's. With this line up they took part in their first international prog rock festival: it was the "Buenos Aires Prog '99", with Swedish band ANEKDOTEN as special guests - it was on Friday, December 3rd of 1999."Glory Lies Ahead", their third album and first sung in English, is, by far, 2112's most impressive effort to date. Released in 2000, it has been highly praised in several prog and metal prog e-zines. For the last years, the band's activities decreased in number, but they managed to keep themselves active in the music business. In the latter half of 2005, Bazán left the band; fortunately, the vacant position was taken by an experienced Uruguayan bassist Gabriel Costa Ferraro (a long-time resident in Argentina). During 2007 the band made several shows, standing out festivals as Conceptuarg (with Clive Nolan's Caamora), Master Prog Fest (with Baja Prog's host Cast) and a gig in the legendary stage Obras Sanitarias (with Logos) in december.March 2008 was the time for a dream coming true: 2112 was at the 13º edition of Baja Prog festival in Mexicali, Baja California, aside with historical bands such as New Trolls, Le Orme, Circa, Riverside, Cast, Rocket Scientists and excellent bands of all over the world (Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Switzerland, Spain and Japan). After this, singer Sebastian Hipólito, who was in the band since december 2006, decided to leave. With the arriving of singer Germán Ivaldi, the band devoted itself in the recording of the new album, which took a couple of years to be finished, and ultimately, released - "El Maravilloso Circo De Los Hermanos Lombardi", May of 2012. More than a decade had passed by since the release of the band's previous album, yet the one revealed that 2112 remains a most powerful item in the context of Argentina's rock scene. Other 2112 activites in recent years were: the shows for the 20th anniversary of "Alterando las Divisiones" in October of 2010; being part of the "Ciclo de Rock Progresivo" festival in Tucumán, alongside REDD, ÜNDER LINDEN and other bands.

1Enemy3 - The Warning 2007

1Enemy3 was formed in April 2004, hailing from Anchorage Alaska. Originally a six piece band featuring 3 guitarists, the guitar work naturally steered toward technical precision to make each part stand out. They auditioned several bass players over a 1 year period, but couldn’t find the right fit to match the groove that they were molding, said to be a combination of Alice In Chains, Pantera, and Led Zeppelin. One of the original self-released demos was dropped off at the largest local music instrument store in Alaska, where the owner decided to contact the band. 1Enemy3 didn’t take long to bring aboard their new bass player who attended Musician’s Institute for Bass (BIT) in the past. They were now a complete unit. 1Enemy3 subsequently rose to the top of the music scene in Anchorage in a very short time. Many high profile events began taking place for the band in 2006. They were accepted for 9 entries on the 2006 Grammy ballot from tracks on their 2005 E.P., “1Enemy3”. The categories included: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Hard Rock Performance (3 entries), Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. Being one of the busiest bands on the local scene, they were also chosen to open for Godsmack at The Sullivan Arena in June 2006. (In the past, members have also opened arena shows for Motley Crue, Megadeth, and Dio). They began to receive airplay, asked to participate in live interviews and showcase events for 106.5 KWHL, 94.7 KZND, and 88.1 KRUA. The buzz also carried over to The Anchorage Daily News and The Anchorage Press. As if this wasn’t enough to keep the band busy, they were offered a generous recording package by Sean Cobb of 12 Records, the highest quality recording studio in Alaska. This offer resulted in their first full length album, “The Warning”, mastered by the world famous Bernie Grundman in Hollywood, which will be released in April 2007. Due to the buzz of the Grammy ballot entries, the band was shopped to several record labels by their representative in Providence, Rhode Island. The only ingredient the band was missing was touring experience. Being isolated from the real music scene in the continental United States, they made the life changing decision to drop everything, purchase 2 large motor homes, and head south to garner a larger fan base and create a lengthy show log. One of the original guitarists couldn’t carry on with the band, and they were now an air tight group of 5. After several appearances down the West Coast, 1Enemy3 landed in Los Angeles in late November 2006, where once again, they are on their rise to the top of the local scene. They have played multiple shows at The Knitting Factory and The Whisky a Go-Go. To build their new fan base they have also appeared at The Cat Club, as well as several other clubs in Venice, Long Beach, Hermosa Beach, San Marcos, Corona, Yucaipa, Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, Downey, Tarzana, Studio City, Roseville, Las Vegas Nevada, and Scottsdale Arizona. It won’t be long before the noise is so loud that they can no longer be denied. 1Enemy3’s goal is to become a national level act performing arena shows several times per week.

21.Peron - 21.Peron 2003

The story of this obscure Turkish band starts in 1970, when "The Izmir College Band", highly influenced by bands as CC REVIVAL, THE WHO or CROSBY, STILLS, NASH AND YOUNG started to perform the full "Tommy" Rock Opera in the school shows. When they graduated and after having several changes in the lineup, they changed the name of the band to 21. PERON.At this point, their musical panorama changed, and in 1974 they recorded a prog jingle for a national radio show by Ümit Tunçag, a famous producer who supported jazz and progressive music. But the story of the band has been heard many times, they never had the support they required, and when in 1979 they had the chance to go to EUROVISION; they were banned in Israel because the political situation, it’s said that they recorded a POP album, but I couldn’t get any info.Luckily their full recordings were released in 2003 by Arkaplan Records on LP format (only 400 hand numbered copies that in a few years became a collectors item). This eponymous album is simply delightful, combines Psychedelia, Hard Rock and Turkish folk in a delicate and pristine Symphonic Rock that reminds me a lot of APHRODITE'S CHILD without vocals.

1980 -1980 2007

1980 is an instrumental progressive jazz metal quartet hailing from France. After a first experimental project that included Armand, Pablo (guitars), and Mathieu (drums), the band was reborn in 2003 in its current form with Ben joining on bass. 1980 started composing and working on what they described as “Brutal Jazz”: instrumental music build on the duality between a free-minded approach from jazz, mixed with brutal sounds and constructions from modern metal. The results were a music sounding like Meshuggah and Weather Report, with dramatic influence from Angelo Badalamenti .1980 released their full-length and self-titled debut in April 2007.

11th Dimension - Odyssey 2014

11th Dimension is a four piece progressive metal / post-metal project from Lisbon, Portugal. The band was officially launched in July 2013, however, the project had been brewing since early 2011 when the four members, that have met in another project, decided to quit and continue by themselves. After the end of that project, they had an almost 3 years long run on the covers band circuit, where they grew their synergy and stage experience, truly transforming into a band. Although all four members revolve around the metal scene in their musical tastes, the mix of musical backgrounds is one of the most interesting aspects of the band. In each song one can find traces of everything, from death and epic metal to rock and electronica; the most predominant trace, however, the modern wave of progressive and post-metal bands. 2014 is marked by the release of their first EP entitled Odyssey.

VIIth Temple - Under The Burning Sun 1978

To the best of our knowledge, 15 copies of this 1978 private pressing were actually produced which suggests that fewer than 50 people have ever heard this album. A select group indeed. And more remarkably, this is a great recording, full of prog keyboards, synths and guitars. The lyrics are dark and mystical, and there's a brooding, ethereal feel to proceedings. At only just over 18 minutes the album's a tad on the short side, but what we do get to hear leaves the listener yearning for more.

39.4 - 39.4 1972

39.4 was a funk-psychedelic band from the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco state, Mexico. The majority of Tapatio groups such as La Revolución de Emiliano Zapata, Los Spiders, La Solemnidad, Fachada de Piedra, Quinta Visión, etc., were mostly imitations of classic rock bands. 39.4 was the exception and coincided with bands from other sides of the Mexican Republic, with more unique and varied influences ranging from jazz to psychedelic. 39.4 was originally formed as Bandido, and consisted of Luisillo Arciniega Luis Vicente Rivera (trombone), Jose Luis Guerrero (Sax and transverse flute), Ignacio Rodriguez (trumpet) Keno Eugenio Guerrero (bass) and Efren Gonzalez Olvera Bear (guitar). Soon after, they changed their name to 39.4 and produced their first and only LP in 1972 on CBS Records in the US.

4th Cekcion - 4th Cekcion 1970

4th Cekcion  were Texas-based sextet. The band line up consisted of drummer Louie Broussard, woodwind player Richard Cantu, singer/keyboardist Greg Isaacs, bassist Mike St. Clair, lead guitarist and brass player Stewart Rojo.  Released by the small Bellaire, Texas-based Solar Recording Corporation, 1970's "4th Cekcion" was produced by Fred Carroll. Credited with writing all 11 tracks, singer Isaacs seemed to be somewhat of a musical chameleon churning out material that haphazardly bounced between genres.  The opener 'Changeable Woman' offered up a slice of BS&T-styled horn rock, the ballad 'Open Your Eyes' showcased some mildly psych-ish moves, 'Betsy Lee' sported blue eyed soul moves, etc.  As lead singer he was also somewhat of a chameleon.  His performances were all quite good, though in an anonymous advertising jingle fashion.  Admittedly the set wasn't perfect with 'You Girl Blues (South of Chicago)' and 'How I Feel' sporting top-40 sheen, coupled with an annoying jazzy horn arrangements  (shades of Chicago).  While nothing here was particularly original or life changing, the results were never less than enjoyable with a couple of numbers including 'Betsy Lee' and 'Find Yourself Another Way' worth multiple spins.  As for the horns; with the exceptions noted above they weren't particularly obtrusive. A couple of the members seem to have remained active in the Texas music scene, reappearing in groups like 5 Easy Pieces and The Funk Factory.

9:30 Fly - 9:30 Fly 1972

Uk group with the curious name recorded at the beginning in 1972 a disc folk-rock namesake of a psico-progressive packing, 9:30 Fly. All the songs are dominated from the harmony of the voices of Michael and his wife Barbara Wainwright. In November the group act together with Velvet Underground in Malver Winter Gardens. Shortly after the Fly vanished without any trace. So this record on the highly collectable Ember label is nowadays a dificult to find rarity.Difficult to know how to describe 9.30 Fly; sort-of folky, sort-of proto-prog, sort-of quite a few things, without ever really being any of them. To be quite honest, 9.30 Fly isn't the most exciting album ever, although it's perfectly pleasant as background music, with male and female vocals from husband-and-wife team (?) Barbara and Michael Wainwright at different points, and a relaxed feel that has nothing in common with, say, Van der Graaf Generator. It isn't helped in the slightest by Michael's consistently flat voice, though, especially when he's attempting to harmonise with Barbara, as on Time Of War.
