One of the rarest albums from Sweden, if not THE rarest. Primarily a jazz funk album with blues overtones, that features none other than Janne Schaffer on guitar. Pressed in a micro quantity of 200 copies. Privately released album in an era when that kind of thing was unheard of. Great production, and some splendid guitar, trumpet, sax and organ work (ESPECIALLY the organ). Opening track is a killer horn rock piece ala primo Chicago. XSAVIOR is a Swedish progressive metal band who began when vocalist Göran Edman (YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN,TIME REQUIEM),drummer Daniel Flores (MIND'S EYE,HUBI MESEIL & TEARS OF ANGER among many others) and guitarist Benny Jansson (TEARS OF ANGER,RIDE THE SKY) got together for the recording of Jansson's third solo album "Save the World" in 2003. The aim was to create music they loved and just have a lot of fun while doing it. But there were still some members missing, which they looked hard for. Matt Norberg, a session keyboard player and Daniel's best friend since childhood, was simply a natural choice. After trying out a bass player that didn't work out Daniel called his old mate from Music School, Mathias Garnås whom had also proved himself being worthy on Benny's solo-album. Right away they entered the studio and after having worked really hard for several months they came up with 13 full songs, and XsavioR could release their debut album, entitled 'Caleidoscope', in May 2005. A Swedish rock kaleidoscope ARBETE OCH FRITID, founded in 1969 by the key player / cellist / composer Ove KARLSSON, had established themselves by means of versatile rock inquiry, based upon purified Swedish folk music. The members, frequently changed except Ove depending upon music styles, had had the point in common that they had been remarkably influenced by experimental jazz / underground rock, and also avantgarde / minimalism like John Cage, Terry Riley, or La Monte Young. Mainly in 1970s around Sweden or Northern Europe, they had given thousands of gigs, that liberated lots of people from "typical rock" with eclectic music essence merged with folk, jazz, rock, Avantgarde, Dadaism, meditation ... they had climbed all the way up to Scandinavian folk rock scene. And the same could be said of their albums, with the eponymous one as a debut released in 1970. Totally seven albums (including one live album "Ur spår") have been released, each of that has a different soundscape from other. Although ARBETE OCH FRITID had been split into two pieces (one of them were founded by Roland KEIJSER, a founder of another one) after releasing "Ur spår" (1975) and finally disbanded in 1979, they are still vivid in the memory of Scandinavian rock, and will be forever. One of the first Swedish bands to fuse jazz and rock (and occasionally African and Latin-American music as well) was Egba (photo: Pawel Lucki), led by trumpeter Ulf Adåker (b. 1945) and saxophonist Ulf Andersson (b. 1940), two musicians with roots in the jazz of the 1960s. Several other musicians of that era also expanded their vocabulary to include the electronic sounds of the day, collaborating with younger musicians whose background was mainly in rock. One of the latter is pianist and keyboard-player Harald Svensson (b. 1954), who has also been involved in other groups, most notably Entra. Tenor saxophonist Ove Johansson (b. 1936) and keyboard-player Susanna Lindeborg (b. 1952) in the group Mwendo Dawa have combined acoustic instruments with electronic sounds since the 1970s, and there are several other groups which work with fusion types of jazz. Nice flute, electric and acoustic piano, and jazz-tone guitar runs all within the confines of tightly arranged compositions. Some African moves foreshadows what Archimedes Badkar would do on “Tre”. Long track on the backside contains a funk rave-up with fiery solos from sax, guitar and electric piano. Gunder Hägg [1967-1971] was a Swedish progg-band (not to be confused with progressive) with their lyrics cover a wide range, from marxist analysis and invitations to revolution to satire, art criticism, 1940s childhood nostalgia, images from daily life and experimental pop art works. Despite the political view the members mainly had upper-middle class/upperclass background. The group took the name from Gunder Hägg (December 31, 1918 – November 27, 2004) who was a Swedish runner and multiple world record breaker of the 1940s. He later forced the group to change the name to Blå Tåget 1972. Band members: Torkel Rasmusson (vocals, accordion, harmonica), Leif Nylén (drums), Mats G. Bengtsson (keyboards), Tore Berger (vocals, clarinet), Roland Keijser (saxophone, flute), Göran von Matérn (guitar, 1968-70), Urban Yman (bass, violin, 1968-72), Kjell Westling (guitar, violin, winds, 1968-72), Carl-Johan De Geer (trombone, accordion, vocals, 1970-72). Swedish band AVGRUNDEN was a short-lived entity consisting of Janos Szakacs (guitar), Lars-Olof Nyström (bass), Raimo Juntunen (violin, maracas, mandolin, harmonica, vocals), Sven-Olof Lorentzen (clarinet), Thomas Åkermark (drums) and Torbjörn Engström (piano, vocals). Their sole release was "Nu Närmar Vi Oss." from 1975 with folky, jazz-tinged progressive music and political lyrics. The album starts and ends with "Signaturen" (The theme). There are lyrics about the computers taking over (Datamaskin) and the Swedish country-side and what's happening there. All politicized and kicking against the establishment with it's capitalist minds. Though not one of the best albums of the era, Avgrunden made a really pleasant album. It is really a quite original blend as far as Sweden is concerned. Well written and very well executed. The electric piano is very present, making the jazzy side of things really stand out. This band was formed in Osby in the mid-60’s as BIB Rhythm & Blues Set by singer and guitarist Ingvar Björnson. The band made several line-up changes and also changed their musical direction. In January 1970 the three remaining members released the album It Wasn’t Meant To Happen on the Toniton label, a pleasing mix of psychedelic and progressive music featuring long tracks sung in English. It is dominated by a swirling organ and sounds quite similar to Kvartetten Som Sprängde, although much more psychedelic. Soon after the recording, Roland Gärdh quit. BIB Set tried a few new drummers without success, so the band split up. Björnson got a solo deal with Metronome in 1984, naming his backing band BIB Set. It featured none of the musicians from the Toniton album. International Harvester only played together for three years, the first under another name, but they were an influential group for Swedish progressive rock. While making sonic experiments and deep excursions into psychedelic rock, their biggest contribution was probably that they were the foundation on which the more famous group Träd, Gräs och Stenar was built. International Harvester started as the short-lived experimental group Pärsson Sound. The group formed in 1967 in Stockholm by guitarist Bo Anders Persson and included cello player Ericsson and violinist Yman, both with a musical education and playing on homemade electric instruments. Saxophonist Tidholm was a film student and a poet, drummer Gantz had played with the progressive dance orchestra Mecki Mark Men, and at times the band also included an extra drummer, Berger. Pärsson Sound was mainly an instrumental group and their music was not very accessible. At times they let a tape pass two tape recorders on stage, one recording and one playing, which meant the music returned, overdubbed and distorted in an increasing mass of tones and noise. They played a number of gigs at the club Filips, the main spot for progressive rock in Stockholm, and started to get more well-known after a festival in Kungsträdgården, where Don Cherry and Peps Persson also played. In 1968 they changed their name to International Harvester and abandoned the most extreme sonic experiments, instead putting the focus on folk music and psychedelic rock. Tidholm's vocals were allowed more space and in stressing the collective and improvising aspect, the band gave a hint of what would come with Träd, Gräs och Stenar a few years later. Living together in a collective, they made films and composed music, including the soundtrack for a few professional films. On Öjvind Fahlströms' Du Gamla du Fria, the band created and improvised all the music while the cameras were rolling. The debut album Sov Gott Rose-Marie was released in 1968 on Love, a Finish label, since there were no Swedish alternative labels around and no commercial labels were interested. But already in 1969 alternative labels had started to pop up, and with the name shortened to Harvester the band released their second album, Hemåt, on Decibel. Later that year, Tidholm and Yman left. Tidholm formed Hot Boys but was to become most well-known as a poet and a writer of plays and children's books. The remaining members formed Träd, Gräs och Stenar and toured Scandinavia intensely for a few years, taking the idea of interactivity one step further by involving the audience in the music making. With a climate increasingly receptive for psychedelic music Träd, Gräs och Stenar were more successful than International Harvester, but otherwise they had much in common, building on elements of psychedelic rock, blues-rock, and folk music. Hoola Bandoola Band was, together with Nationalteatern, the biggest band of the Swedish prog rock movement. And where Nationalteatern put social realistic lyrics to rock songs, Hoola Bandoola had more political lyrics and swerved further from traditional rock. The origins of the band is to be found in the failed project Spridda Skurar, of which Clemmendson and Afzelius were members. Wiehe was called in as songwriter, but it ended up with the three of them forming Hoola Bandoola, taking the name from a phrase in a Donald Duck movie, together with keyboard player Randén, bass player Frank, drummer Kjellgren, and percussionist Skytte. In 1971, they had their first radio hit and were immediately contacted by two record companies, one commercial and one alternative, MNW. In the political climate of the '70s, the choice of side was crucial, and by choosing the alternative company, Hoola Bandoola came to be the most well-known band on the alternative side in Sweden. Their debut in 1971, Garanterat Individuell, was hailed as the start of a new era for Swedish pop and was elected the album of the year. It was not overly political when it came to lyrics, but on Vem Kan Man Lita På, released the next year, the socialist message was clearer. It still sold very well and included long-lasting hits like "Herkules." With På Väg, recorded with the balalaika orchestra Södra Bergens Balalajkor, Hoola Bandoola became one of the best-selling groups in Sweden. But the next year they took a break, during which Afzelius released his solo debut, Vem Är Det Som Är Rädd. In 1975, they reunited for the album Fri Information, where the socialist message was more outspoken than ever before. And this time, Afzelius had written half of the songs, where before it had been Wiehe writing almost everything. In 1975, the alternative moment gathered in opposition to a tennis game played between Sweden and a Chile ruled by the military dictatorship, and for that event, Hoola Bandoola released "Stoppa Matchen" as a single. This was to be their last studio recording. Next year, the band broke up and Wiehe and Afzelius started very successful careers as singer/songwriters, both together and by themselves. After 20 years' absence, Hoola Bandoola reunited in 1996, playing warmup for Bob Dylan and going on their own nationwide tour. On this tour, the album För Dom Som Kommer Sen was recorded. But in 1999, Afzelius died, making further reunions more unlikely. Pandora was founded 1971 in Norrkoping Sweden by drummer Bertil Jonsson and on guitar Urban Gotling. Later joinded by the singer Peter Hjelm and on keyboard Janne ”Flojda” Dockner. Gotling was replaced by Åke Rolf (fd H2O) and Leif Hellqvist. This line up recorded ”Measures of Time” 1974. Pandora had their workshop at this time on the top floor of Bergaskolan in Soderkoping. 1976 Hellqvist quit. He went over to play danceband-music. At the same time also Bjorn Malmqvist guit. He started study music. New members came: On keyboard Uffe Stern and on base Gunnar Hermelin (fd Madeira). This line up where 1978 on swedish radio "Tonkraft" and recorded the single ”Makten och Harligheten”. They also did concerts in Horsalen Norrkoping together with bands like ”Trettioariga kriget” och ”Kaipa”.The Band had under these years a record shop ”Rockslag” Nygatan in Norrkoping. The shop became a little centrum of culture for recordfreaks, to gather in, have a coup of coffe and talk abouth music. The shop went bankrupt in 1980. Band that inspirered Pandora was Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Camel, Wishbone Ash, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep och Weather Report. From the start Pandora played harder rock but went over to more jazz-symfonirock when Stern och Hermelin joined. The last demo was recorded in 1980 on Stage & Music in Norrkoping. Pandora came to be an inspiration to the band Tribute, and their members Gideon Andersson and Per Ramsby often visited Pandoras concerts. Ramsby even played in some concerts as a replacement for Uffe Stern.Janne and Uffe and later Åke Rolf and Gunnar Hermelin continuied to play in ”Flojd & The Boys” that was in -75. Anna Själv Tredje (also, and commonly, Anna Själv Tredje) is a classic electronic duo from Sweden, with strong influences in the entire Berlin School electronic music adaptation, with several other characters of music being an artificial art and with the taste to steep all the fine touches and typesets into an original obscure (though dappled) style. The two musicians started the music work around 1976 and stood firm in the experiment till 1979, when the duo disbanded. Very rare (and unprinted enough, once the years settled on the dust) but properly impressive, their sole composed and released album, Tussilago Fanfara, stands for meta-inspiration, expansive electronic and experimental dark sensations. The duo consists of Ingemar Ljungström and Mikael Bojen. Afterwards the split, Ingemar Ljungström also played in Cosmic Overdose (from 1977-1981) or Twice A Man, bands that used, sortly, experimental synth / post-punk nuances with sometimes vocals in Swedish.Mikael Bojen worked on even more popular tendencies. The combination of the music, the style and the electronic influence/presence can be diversified, well enough, into different movements and appointments. A Swedish krautrock extension or impulse isn't far (but neither ever fundamental); the recordings and the precision of this electronic band are vastly in the auspices of some mid-classic experiences from Klaus SCHULZE, either from the soft touches of Moondawn or the entirely accurate Mirage minimal findings. The tiny "modern" experiments lead to something between ambient winds, cosmic surround and hypnosis of sound-fragments. Minimalism is a trademark improvised in ubiquitous expressions, reaching the post-influence of Peter Michael HAMEL, REICH or RILEY, but also some acoustic and synth-dynamic characteristics of meditation (most commonly, GLASS being appointed). Between there is the occupied synthesizing attitude, there's the sound-unveiling, there is an organ profusion or some small guitar works, made by Bojen in a tranquil and atomic way. The concept and contrast of sequencing resembles some late 70s ASHRA glance as well. Lastly (and really the last to be considered), TANGERINE DREAM's resembling electronic tempo, the space jams offbeats of the music evolve to a distant distinction. The Tussilago Fanfara project is prolific, deep but not hollow, intrinsic but never too mindless, exploring electronic music of the classic School, but also of the new-performance experimentalism. Lotus was a Swedish five piece band with additional musicians on saxophone, piano, bass and drums. In 1974 they released their eponymous debut album, in 1976 followed by this second effort entitled Vera O'Flera. The style of this little-known Swedish quartet is hard to describe as it escapes most comparisons; the closest would be FINNFOREST, and perhaps Danish fusion band SECRET OYSTER. This is fusion at its best: energetic instrumental jazz-rock featuring dual guitars, electric piano/Hammond organ, bass and drums, and stunning musicianship all around. After the release of their second album in 1976, the band, alas, split up. Although the tracks on their first album are rather short, each one is chock full of ideas and beautiful catchy melodies based on tight, 70ish-like jazzy grooves, all charmingly and distinctively Swedish. Their second album, "Vera O'Flera", which features a guest musician on sax, is in the same vein but much more fusion oriented and perhaps a bit less convincing. (YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN,TIME REQUIEM),drummer Daniel Flores (MIND'S

three veteran session musicians felt they had much in common musically
and decided to join forces, with the aim of creating original music in
the style that they loved...progressive metal. Needing more members,
they recruited keyboardist Matt Norberg, Daniel Flores' best friend
since childhood. They soon found their bassist in Mathias Garnås (RIDE

studio and recorded their debut album "Caleidoscope", which was released
in 2005. XSAVIOR merges influences from metal, progressive rock and
even pop and plays a fresh, innovative brand of progressive metal. If
you merged DREAM THEATER,SYMPHONY X,QUEEN,STYX and THE FLOWER

Harvester was
formed in 1967 in Stockholm by guitarist Bo Anders Pärsson and included
cello player Ericsson and violinist Yman. They were first known because
of International Harvester and Pärsson Sound who delivered colossal live
sessions during the late 60s. In 1968 they changed their name for
Harvester. During that period they partly abandoned their psych-out
droning rock and focused their interest on traditional folk music and
acoustic performances. Harvester provided splendid homemade epiphanic
folk ragas made of ritual psychotropical moods and improvised bucolic
ballads. The debut album Sov Gott Rose-Marie was released in 1968 on
Love. In 1969 alternative labels had started to pop up, and with the

Handgjort
(trans. "Handmade") recorded a legendary album in 1970 released by
Silence Records. All covers were hand-painted by the band members. The
music is moody underground folk with Eastern influences. The album sold
very poorly and is a serious collectors item today. The original band
members were: Marcus Brandelius aka Greg Fitzpatrick (esraj and vocals),
Guy Öhrström (acoustic guitar), Stig Arne Karlsson (sitar), and Theo
Greyerz (tablas). After over three years of preparation, Handgjort is
reissued, released as a coproduction from Silence and Psykofon records.
This is an exclusive replica, with hand-painted covers by the band
members once again! The original album was remastered from the master
tapes without digitalization. The previously-unreleased bonus tracks
were all recorded live at the festivals at Gärdet in 1970 and 1971.
Strictly limited edition of 600 copies done with the full cooperation of
